A recent report suggests that the upcoming Battlefield 3 game’s pre-orders are close to the amount of pre-orders for Call of Duty: Black Ops. Although Battlefield 3 does not quite have the name-power of Call of Duty, it seems that the competition is beginning to heat up. Call of Duty has had its share of hard times with PC and PS3 players with their last game, while there is high anticipation for EA’s performance on the PC with Battlefield 3. However, Infinity Ward (makers of Call of Duty) has tried to bump up their status by giving glitch-testers their new game, Modern Warfare 3, to play for a week in order to sort out any glitches before putting it in gamers’ hands.
On the BF3Blog, they had this to say regarding their sales: “Cowen & Company also reports (via GamesIndustry.biz) that they expect Battlefield 3 to sell 8 to 11 million units during its first year. Previous estimates from the same analyst have put Battlefield 3 sales at 10 million during its lifetime, with Modern Warfare 3 sales topping 20 million.”
Despite these reports, it will be interesting to see how the little guy, Battlefield 3, stands up to its big competitor. The game is set to release on October 25, 2011.
