United States’ First lady Michelle Obama’s lent a handy and helpful hand on Sunday as she helped rebuild a North Carolina home on ABC’s “Home Makeover”. She said that this is first of many examples of helping American Military families.

During an interview with The Fayetteville Observer, Obama said, “Now, I know that not every community can build a home in a week, and not every veteran will end up in Disneyland or on national TV. But I also know that the compassion I felt in Fayetteville is alive and well in very community across this country.”

United Press International reported that Obama “encouraged Fayetteville to enjoy the television spotlight and look into pitching in with JoiningForces.gov.” JoiningForces.gov is a volunteer campaign that is desiged to help military families and launched by the White House.

Obama explained that the mission of the campaign is “about Americans uniting in service around these familis. And it’s about everyone — no matter where they come from or their station in life — stepping up to give something meaningful back.”

There’s been rumors all over the media that “Army Wives” actress Kim Delaney had been drinking before her speech. Perhaps to…cure the nervousness? Wizbangpop.com reported that Delaney was “disheveled” and rambled through her speech during an event honoring former Defense Secretary Robert Gates (who was awarded the Liberty Medal at the National Constitution Center in Philly). Delaney was supposed to talk about her role as an Army wife based on the “Army Wives” TV Series.

Other reports blamed the faulty teleprompter that wasn’t working, while most probably think that she may have relapsed to state of alcoholism (which Delaney have had a history of).

For those who have seen the video, we’d love to hear your thoughts.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon will be appearing as an adventure guide in his upcoming TV series on PBS. President Felipe Calderon will host the show as he travels throughout Mexico. The president hopes that the show will help promote tourism in his country, even though the country is experiencing ongoing drug gang wars.

The show has already received criticism for being a “cover-up” and not fully showing the best of the country’s natural wonders. Many observers of Calderon say this is not surprising, as he has constantly used the media as a means of softening the country’s image.

His opponents are also skeptic of the show. The Democratic Revolution Party, headed by Congresswoman Leticia Quezada, is particularly opposed to the show, saying that government vehicles should not be used to make the show.

The shows will run 30-minutes long, but no word yet of the premier date.

The actor put his career on hold to work as associate director for the White House’s Office of Public Engagement. He decided to take the government job because he saw the need for change and wanted to take part in it. Having friends in different situations ranging from being deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan to losing health insurance for various reasons, he felt he had to help voice their opinions.

During his stint as associate director, he learned that the political process is a very slow and laborious one. Says Penn, “I think what I’ve seen is that there is a realization that change is not a light switch. That if it was easy to flip on a light switch and change everything, someone would have done it before…”

On November 9th, The Weather Channel will debut a new series called Coast Guard Alaska (working title). The show, created by The Weather Team and produced by Al Roker Entertainment, will focus on a team of Coast Guard swimmers and rescue pilots stationed in Kodiak, Alaska.

As reported by Philiana Ng for The Hollywood Reporter, viewers will get to see the Coast Guard members dealing with the pressures of work, their lives while off-duty, and also find out how they balance work with family. The show is believed to be a good fit with The Weather Channel as it shows how the weather can affect a person’s work and lifestyle, in this case, members of the Coast Guard.

Executive Vice President and General Manager of The Weather Channel’s networks and content, Bob Walker said, “Coast Guard Alaska has all the elements we’re looking for in original programming – great storytelling, action and adventure, and most importantly, how the weather affects someone’s work and lifestyle. This series fits in perfectly with the strategy we’ve developed for the Weather Channel’s long-form content across all platforms. We just celebrated the second year of Wake Up with Al on The Weather Channel, so this was my anniversary gift to the network. In all seriousness, Coast Guard Alaska is a compelling series and one we feel will captivate The Weather Channel audience.”

Al Roker hopes that this show is as successful as his other show on The Weather Channel, Wake Up with Al, which has just finished its second year.

The show will premier on November 9th at 9pm on The Weather Channel.

Navy veteran Barbara Marshall and her family received the surprise of a lifetime when first lady, Michelle Obama, joined up with “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” to give the Marshall family a new home.

Marshall, a veteran after 15 years of service, had put her time and money towards developing the Steps-n-Stages Jubilee House to aid homeless female veterans while also maintaining a home for her family. The house was a mere 1500-square-feet and was able to house up to three families. After hearing about her hard work and dedication, the “Extreme Makeover” team gave her a new home with 5000-square-feet as well as additional resources to help her with her work. Michelle Obama was also there to thank her for her hard work and to promote her military support campaign, “Joining Forces.”

“The fact that this woman has opened her home — which she didn’t have much — to other women who are struggling, is just a powerful statement of the courage and the strength that our veterans show,” Obama said regarding Marshall.

The episode will air on ABC on October 21.

RealMilitaryVideos.com has just released an interesting movie clip entitled “Body Search” which was once a very top-secret OSS film that taught Allied secret agents on how to avoid capture undercover and what they can expect if they were to be caught! As the title implies, a body search is not just dehumanizing or humiliating, but also uncomfortable and often very painful. This declassified Real Military film shows what one can expect when they are caugh and have to go through a full body strip search, including a body cavity search (internal inspection of body cavities).

So how did this U.S. Allied Special Agent blow his cover and end up in a body search? Watch the clip and let us know what you think!

Our brave men and women of America truly understand the kind of sacrifice they make serving our country when they leave their family and friends behind to fight for our country’s freedom. It was a special moment for the Soldiers from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division who got to share their most “intimate reunions in front of a national television audience on The Learning Channel” especially after a year of being away from them, as reported by Spc. Khori D. Johnson for the Colorado Springs Military Newspaper Group.

Johnson wrote, “For Spc. Kyle Dite, 4th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment; Sgt. Garrett Huitt, 3rd Battalion, 29th Field Artillery Regiment; and Sgt. Steven McGloin, 3rd Special Troops Battalion; this became a reality as their reunion was planned and filmed by a crew from TLC’s new series, ‘Surprise Homecoming’”.

The videos officially aired on July 11th. This was a new series that is hosted by all time Grammy Award winning Country musician Billy Ray Cyrus. The show focuses on reuniting “military men and women with their families after serving time overseas,” as reported by Hannah G. Vickers for Military Times.

Cyrus explained that it was his way to say thank you to all the servicemembers who are fighting for our country and their families. “Being part of ‘Surprise Homecoming’ has truly been an honor and a privilege for me,” Cyrus said during an interview with TLC.

So how did it all come into fruition? Vickers wrote that Dite was lucky enough to have been approached by his sergeant while serving in Iraq. After being selected, Dite had to wait and lie about not being back in the United States.

“It was hard to lie to my mom,” Dite said. “But it was something I knew I had to do.”

Dite’s mother Kathy Kerins said “How they kept this secret I don’t know. Anytime they’ve got something – good, bad – they have to tell me.”

After her sons showed up with flowers, Kerins mentioned that she had a tough time trying to process it all in.

“I was just so focused on these boys getting back home, just like any other mother that wants their children home, and I had both of mine, my only two children,” she said. “This was just beyond my wildest dreams. I just could have never imagined this happening to me, I get very emotional.”

For those who have served in the military knows that everything we do comes with sacrifice. A part of that sacrifice is the frequent relocations to new states, bases and as a result new neighborhoods and schools for servicemen and women with children. During a Nationals game, First Lady Michelle Obama met with a few Washington Nationals players and children of servicemembers on the field. Rebecca Koenig for infozine.com wrote, “The Nationals held the brief pre-game ceremony in support of Joining Forces, a national initiative led by Obama and Dr. Jill Biden to improve the health, education and employment opportunities of military spouses and children.”

Army Master Sgt. Christine Thompson was there during the event and had helped organized it. “To draw national attention to the sacrifice is really great. It’s about time they got that recognition,” she said.

Manager Davey Johnson honored the armed forces members by giving them a baseball bat to the USO leaders.

“Military family members are uprooted a lot. To do that every two or three years is tough,” Thompson said. “Without their support we can’t accomplish the job we need to do in the battlefield.”

Thompson mentioned that it can be challenging for military families to always learn to adjust to different environments. She mentioned that having the President’s and the First Lady’s presence really raised awareness and can eventually provide more resources for military families.

For America’s independence and in honor of our brave men and women, singer Josh Groban put on a show for military families and visited wounded soldiers on Sunday. Contactmusic.com wrote, “This star is among the artists due to take the stage at the historic U.S. Capitol venue in Washington, D.C. on Monday to help his fellow citizens’ ring in the Fourth of July.”

Instead of partying, and spending time with friends & family, Mr. Groban spent his entire full day thanking all active military members and veterans. Groban mentioned, “Singing War At Home tomorrow night will be an honor for me and my tribute to all of those at home and abroad coping with the price of war.”
