In a recent exclusive interview conducted by Armchairgeneral.com and their partner site HistoryNet.com, the USO of Metropolitan Washington provided some interesting insight on how the organization has grown and “evolved during its 70-year existence,” as reported by the Armchair general’s editorial team. The team spoke with President and Chief Executive Officer of the USO Elaine Rogers who has stayed with the company for close to 35 years.
One of the topics that she brought up was the huge ‘gaming’ activity that is very popular with U.S. Military Personnel. She talked about the USO2GO kit (AKA USO in a Box) that “delivers – among other things – console games and the equipment to play them to forward bases in Afghanistan and Iraq.”
Rogers said, “The USO2GO kit provides comforts to base camps in the field in Afghanistan and Iraq. It contains everything from toothpaste to books to DVDs to electronics like consoles for gaming. All these things come in a box, and it’s pretty terrific.”
She explained to HistoryNet.com that gaming is huge in their centers and have various consoles such as Xboxes that soldiers can use to “connect and visit with troops in other places” to play games together.
The USO is constantly building newer game technologies and facilities. Rogers said that they are building a golf simulator that simulates about any golf course in the entire world and for players to play golf with anyone and everyone in the world.
