There have always been rumors, but now a new book written by Hal Vaughan, is officially claiming that Coco Chanel was a Nazi spy. The book entitled, “Sleeping with the Enemy: Coco Chanel’s Secret War”, has gotten the attention of her namesake fashion house.

Not surprisingly, the fashion house is upset about many claims in the book, including that Coco Chanel was a member of Germany’s Abwehr intelligence agency and was an anti-Semite.

Vaughan backs up his book with archival evidence he said he found regarding Coco Chanel and her lover, Baron Hans Gunther von Dincklage. The documents mention that von Dincklage, a professional Abwehr spy, recruited Chanel for Abwehr and sent her on missions in Spain and Berlin under the name Westminster.

Vaughan also writes that after the war, she was arrested, released, and fled to Switzerland.

The house of Chanel has issued a statement refuting the claims.
